Building Consent
However, permits such as the temporary structure/building permit was still required for the event to go ahead. The organisers of the Rugby World Cup were required to obtain a temporary structure/building permit for the construction of 3 two-storey tent structures and a foyer entrance façade on the No 2 ground; the associated kitchen, storage and toilet structure because they were over the 100 square metre limit. It was also necessary because scaffolding was required to increase the number of seats in Eden Park from 60,000 to 62,000. The purpose of this consent is to ensure the safety of everyone at the stadium. Poor construction and unsafe building practices could be hazardous and result in damage and injury. I was unable to find the specific date the event organisers for the RWC were issued building consent however the application for this permit is required at least 25 days before the event.
Evaluation:
The planning and consent process for this temporary structure/building permit proved successful, as there are no reports of injury or damage to people or infrastructure.
